Phosphonates

Phosphonates
Phosphonates are chelating agents used to combat the effects of water hardness. They can bind to metal ions, thereby preventing the formation of insoluble deposits. Phosphonates are highly stable in harsh conditions, making them useful in various industrial applications, such as desalination systems, low-pressure boiler water systems, industrial and municipal water treatment systems, swimming pools, pulp and paper production, and more.

In the detergent industry, phosphonates improve the washing process by reducing water hardness. Additionally, they act as stabilizers for bleaching agents in detergents that rely on peroxide bleach.

Phosphonates are used in household products like powder and liquid detergents, as well as in automatic dishwasher tablets and liquids.
